Description

Genie, after running from many zombie, finally found her way to Petalburg city. “There are zombies here, too? Jeez…”

“What did you expect, human?” Anne spat. “They’re everywhere.”

Hannah blinked. “Can’t you be nice to her?”

Anne growled. “Fine… I’ll try…”

Genie blinked as a zombie started heading her way. She ran into a house with her ’mons and closed the door behind her. She sighed and turned to see a woman in a chair behind a table. “A survivor?! Hey, what are you doing here? Are you okay?” There was no response. “Hello?”

Lizzie scuttled over to the woman. “Um… She’s missing her legs…”

Genie blinked. “O-Oh…” She walked over to the woman and started to dig through her pockets.

“What are you doing?” Hannah asked.

“Hey, whatever she’s got is of no use to her anymore, right?” She pulled a apple core from her pocket. “Why did she have this on her?”

Lizzie blinked. “Can I hold onto that?”

“Uh… Sure, I guess? Why do you-”

“Why let it go to waste?”

Genie left the house and began her walk around town, trying to avoid as many zombies as she could. She saw a large, metal building. “This must be a gym.” Looking at the sing out front, she learned that the gym leader’s name was ‘Norman.’ “Norman… Why does that name sound so familiar?” She walked towards to door.

“I am NOT going in there! Do you not see all those skulls jamming the door shut? That’s no way we can get in!”

The Zigzagoon looked down at the complaining Skitty. “Please be quiet… You’ll attract the Zombies.” Anne sighed, but stayed silent.

Genie shrugged and began to leave through the west of town.

“Genie?” The young girl stopped and looked at the boy who had called out her name. “I thought that was you. You must be looking for your brother and May, right?”

“And, you are…?”

“A friend. They went north-west to Petalburg Woods. That was a few days ago, though. I wonder what’s-” The boy cut himself off, staring at something over Genie’s shoulders.

“What’re you staring at?” The girl turned to see at least 20 Zombies marching towards them. “Holy!”

The boy pushed Genie behind him. “Run! I’ll hold them off as long as I can!”

“I can’t just leave you!”

“Don’t argue! Just run!”

“C’mon, klutz! Let’s get out of here!”

Genie blinked, fighting back tears before running off. Why am I so torn up about this? I don’t even know him!

Once she had left town, Genie heard a loud, blood curdling scream. The scream belonged to the boy that had saved her. The young girl fell to her knees and, after placing Lizzie in front of her, began crying - no, sobbing - into her hands,

Hannah looked at her friend from her shoulder. “There was nothing you could do.”

“Yes, there was,” Genie argued. “I could’ve stayed with him.”

“Yes, and then we’d all be dead.” Genie looked down at Anne, knowing that she spoke the truth. “So, get up, stop feeling sorry about that boy’s death and let’s keep going.”

Genie nodded and slowly got to her feet. “Thanks, Anne,” the girl said softly, picking up Lizzie.

Anne shrugged and jumped up onto Genie’s other shoulder. “Just keep going.”

“Hey, kid. You got anything good on you? Any money? Rare items?”

“Uh… No?”

“Lies! Get her, Baltoy!”

Hannah looked at her trainer. “I’ll take care of this one.” The Zigzagoon jumped off Genie’s shoulder, throwing all her weight into the Baltoy.

The Baltoy seemed unaffected and lifted up the young Pokemon, moving her towards the nearby sea water.

“Genie! I… I can’t-” She was cut off by the Baltoy putting her whole body under the surface.

“Call off your Baltoy! Please!”

“You’re gonna have to do a better job of convincing me.”

Genie threw her money at the man. “There! Take it! Just call it off!”

“Baltoy. Your job is done.”

The Pokemon blinked, releasing its hold on the Zigzagoon. It looked at its trainer, a proud look in its eyes.

Genie ran over to the water. “Hannah!” She started searching through the water for her friend’s familiar zigzagged coat. “Don’t you die on me!”

“Genie!”

The girl looked over at the young Skitty, who was pulling ashore what looked like a drowned rat. “No… Hannah!”
